V. Shayne Frederick

V. Shayne Frederick is a vocalist and pianist who has captivated audiences with his emotive vocals, impactful artistic vision, and magnetic stage presence for nearly 20 years. DownBeat Magazine declared his vocals “soulful,” while All About Jazz suggests he’s “one to watch [...] a shining light,” and Philadelphia Inquirer hails his "silken baritone and elegant charm.”

 

He’s electrified TEDx, NPR, and graced the stages of Minton’s Harlem, Con Alma Pittsburgh, McGill University in Montreal, Long Beach Island Foundation, The Annenberg Center, The Barnes Foundation, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Delaware Art Museum, Piton International Film Festival, and The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, among many, many stages.

 

As a recording artist, Frederick released several internationally heralded independent projects: The King Suite, Blacklight, Evergreen, Gleaming, and Lovesome, blending luxurious Jazz sensibilities with modern élan, resulting in music that resonates with listeners of many generations. He has also been the featured vocalist on other projects released on Ropeadope Records and Outside In Music. He’s been a regular Jazz commentator on Los Angeles’ KBLA talk radio, and has interviewed everywhere from WRTI Philadelphia, to Nigeria’s Smooth 98.1 radio, and London’s JazzFM.

 

In addition to being a performer and recording artist, V. Shayne is a composer and keyboardist for Yolanda Wisher & the Afroeaters, an original music spoken word Jazz band formed by a Philadelphia poet laureate, and also as an orator for Ruth Naomi Floyd’s Frederick Douglass Jazz Works ensemble. Shayne has also scores for short film and commercial.

 

V. Shayne Frederick completed a term as a Board Governor on the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy, and was faculty on the Music Department faculty at The University of the Arts for several years until its untimely demise in 2024.

 

His new album, Treasures, arrives in 2025.
